We caught up with Chantelle Fairbairn (@ChantelleFairbainMUA) to see how she’s getting studying her HNC in Fashion Makeup with GlamCandy.
“I have loved every minute of being at GlamCandy! From the skills I’ve learned to the people I’ve met, it’s been the best experience of my life. I started off by firstly taking a short course with GlamCandy, I really enjoyed that and that’s what made me go onto study my HNC in Fashion Makeup. I enrolled in this course because I’ve always loved doing makeup and once I completed the short course, I knew that a career in makeup was exactly what I wanted. My end goal is to be travelling the world doing makeup for TV and Film.”
“The highlight of the course has got to be my total look. I was so nervous about it because I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew with the look I wanted to do, but I managed to pull it off and it was the best feeling ever.”
Total Look is our Project Based unit in the HNC in Fashion Makeup course. The students are required to research and study a fashion designer or cosmetics brand by taking inspiration and planning a look complete with hair, makeup and styling for a professional photoshoot.
“My favourite style to learn has actually been editorial. It wasn’t something that I even thought about but I love how diverse it is. It can be simple but so effective or it can be bold and dramatic and I love that about it. Since starting my HNC I have took part in multiple photoshoots and got a Saturday job in a salon. My makeup skills have massively improved and so has my confidence. I have never felt better or happier.”
Outside of makeup, Chantelle loves doing nails. She’s a self taught nail technician and mainly does her friends and family, in the near future she would love to gain her qualification for nails so she can offer this as another service. She also really enjoys baking and decorating cakes, she finds this a very relaxing process and loves seeing it all come together.
– “I enjoy anything that involves being creative really!”
We asked Chantelle what her goals look like for the next 5 years.
“In 5 years time I hope to be working alongside some of the biggest makeup artist on London Fashion Week and other major events. I would also love to become a social media influencer.”
If Chantelle could pick a celebrity to do their makeup she would love to get the chance to do Miley Cyrus due to her being an absolute QUEEN. Finally, we asked if Chantelle had any advice for new aspiring makeup artists –
“Just for for it!! Don’t let your nerves put your off, and dont listen to anything negative that anyone has to say. Do you and enjoy it!”
