Course Overview

Our course is designed to provide a broad-based education in photographic theory, practical camera skills and commercial awareness. You will work on a variety of photographic projects and genres throughout our 24 week course, supported by a team of lecturers and tutors with years of experience in the industry.

Course Content

The range of photography units on our HNC course are designed to give you a challenging and varied education in photography. On completion of your course you will be equipped to begin your career as a professional photographer or progress onto further study.


Photography Theory:

It’s all about the light! You will learn about exposure theory and basic composition techniques whilst developing your practical skills using a DSLR camera.


Corporate Photography:

Learn how to visually represent a business through the lens by photographing staff headshots, interiors and general corporate activity as well as planning, budgeting and writing proposals.


Social Photography:

Individual and family portraiture in a photographic studio and on location, for example, at weddings and events.

Still Life Photography:

Everything from beauty products to fresh fruit and vegetables find their way into our photography studios, you will be able to advance your studio and location lighting techniques for still life and product photography.


Stock Photography:

Stock photography is a huge part of the marketing and advertisement sector, items such as food, drinks and cosmetics, to name a few, are commonly produced for websites such as Shutterstock. Learn about the effective photographing of stock imaging and its uses for business purposes.


Starting a Business:

You will learn how to write business plans and familiarise yourself with the legal, administrative and budgeting requirements for launching a photography business.

Image Editing:

Utilisation of a broad range of photo editing, manipulation and enhancement techniques, as well as file management and storage. All GlamCandy photography students will have access to Adobe Creative Suite.



Learn essential professional studio and location lighting techniques and gain firsthand experience in shooting a portfolio of studio, fashion, and environmental portraits.


Graded Unit:

A research and portfolio-based unit to showcase the knowledge and skills you have gained throughout the course.


Course fees also include a Nikon 3500D DSLR Camera with 18 – 55mm lens.

Graduates from our HNC Photography course can expect to progress on to an exciting and stimulating career as a photographer and in other sectors of the creative industries. Alternatively, our course is a solid platform from which to progress your photography education to HND level.
