Paige Elliot (@mua_by_paige), one of our graduates here at GlamCandy, is breaking boundaries after successfully graduating from our HNC Fashion Makeup whilst being profoundly deaf. 22 year old Paige, wears a cochlear implant and attended GlamCandy to complete her studies. During her training she received all of the support from our tutors and wants to push other aspiring makeup artists in a similar position to come and do the same. Our tutors know all about deaf awareness and knew exactly how to support Paige, she received a lot of 1-1 support to assist her studies, leaving Paige’s experience amazing.
“I would recommend any aspiring makeup artist to attend GlamCandy, I hope my experience will encourage deaf people to apply for this course and follow their dreams! I enrolled in HNC Fashion Makeup and graduated in July with an A. I couldn’t be happier.”
Paige has always wanted to learn more about makeup and hair, and build her skills around this. She has never had experience working on photoshoots, films or in a salon and felt the course sounded really interesting as this is what she wants to make a career out of. Her highlight has been getting the experience to work on photoshoots and create editorial looks, Bridal and Glam makeup, Work Placement and learning all the makeup techniques that you cant find out on your own. Her all time favourite style to learn has to be Glam and Bridal makeup. Paige was also able to sign language with a client during their makeup session so they knew step by step what was happening and offers this as one of her services today.
Before GlamCandy, Paige could only do basic makeup and feels she has improved massively on her skills and gained the confidence she needs to go out and do it. In 5 years time, she is looking to finish her HND and then looking to progress into the Film industry, working behind the scenes in the studio or set up her own makeup business.
Outside of makeup, she’s a social butterfly and enjoys travelling the world, socialising with friends, baking and shopping! If Paige got the chance to do any celebrities makeup, she would pick Tasha Ghouri – another amazing role model just like our Paige.
“Keep practicing a lot and dont give up! Take pictures of your first makeup look and then take pictures at the end of the course or after a while so you can see how much your skills have improved. Try a short makeup course first to help build your skills and this will give you a taste if its going to be for you or not.
Bonus Makeup Tip: Remember to use concealer first before applying any eye makeup.”
