We sat down with Helena Milne (@HelenaMilneMUA) to speak about her experience when she studied her HNC Fashion Makeup with GlamCandy.
“I had such a lovely time at GlamCandy, unfortunately we had only a couple of weeks in the class before we were hit with our first lockdown, but the tutors were so helpful! They all set us up on zoom and offered not only makeup tutoring support, but would also check in on us each day to make sure that we were all mentally coping with all the big changes – my tutor even drove all the way from Aberdeen to my house in Dundee to deliver my makeup kit! All the tutors at GlamCandy really went the extra mile for us and it was honestly amazing.”
Helena has always been a creative person and loved painting. She dropped out her art course in college and thought she would give painting faces a chance so enrolled with GlamCandy.
“Turns out I absolutely LOVE to paint faces – and now its my job!”

“My favourite style to learn was definitely editorial and bridal – I can’t decide between the two! My heart lies with all things artsy and creative so I think editorial looks are so much fun to do, I love the creative process. Bridal is another favourite of mine, opposite end of the spectrum compared to editorial but I love making people feel beautiful while still feeling like themselves and for me thats what bridal is all about!”
“Last year I joined a bridal makeup and hair team who work all around Scotland, so far working with them has been the highlight of my career as a makeup artist! I’ve met so many lovely brides and been to so many amazing venues. Right now, I’m just excited to do more of that. I’m hoping to continue with lots more this year and also do some more editorial work alongside this!”
In 5 years time, Helena would love to be self-employed full time. She would love to see her work published in a magazine for her makeup and continue to do her bridal work that she is doing just now. Outside makeup, she looks after her giant child Spirit, who is a 6 year old ex race horse.
