The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Fashion Make-up (SCQF level 7) develops knowledge, skills, and practical expertise in all aspects of fashion make-up such as beauty, glamorous, fashion make-up and hairstyling for a photoshoot.
Alongside learning the necassary skills to complete makeup looks, our tutors will teach you what it’s like to work in the industry. They will share their personal experiences of jobs they have had throughout their career as makeup artists.
Our tutors have worked with STV & the BBC, they have created looks for large commercial campaigns, worked at London Fashion week, been featured in the pages of Vogue. They have built successful businesses as glam and bridal appointment artists or are working as successful beauty influencers.
Make-up and skincare form part of one of the largest industries in the world. COURSE CONTENT
Essential Makeup Skills
This unit covers skin types, skin tones, face shapes, colour theory and foundation matching.
CURRENT & CLASSIC
Covering iconic beauty trends over the past few decades from the winged eyeliner of the 40’s to the glamour of the modern day cut crease.
RUNWAY & EDITORIAL
Researching fashionable looks from brands, designers, campaigns and runways to inspire your own runway and editorial-style looks.
HAIRDRESSING TECHNIQUES
Create basic looks that compliment a range of makeup styles using rollers, finger waving and curls. These are taught using various hair products and heated tools.
COMMERCIAL
Whether you’re working for a fashion brand or a new product launch this unit will teach you to follow creative briefs and take professional direction. Plan, design and produce an entire look complete with make-up, hair and styling.
PRESENTING
Presenting and promoting make-up looks or products to individuals via live audiences and via social media. This unit teaches you to educate in an audience for events and masterclasses.
PROJECT-BASED
Researching and studying a fashion designer or cosmetics brand by taking inspiration and planning a look complete with hair, make-up and styling for a professional photoshoot.
Eyelash Enhancements & Eyebrow Artistry
Students will learn practical skills in eyelash tinting, eyebrow styling and the application of semi-permanent single lash treatment.
SOCIAL MEDIA
We help you understand the meaning of content creation and how to promote and build your following across different types social platforms.
BRIDAL
Learn how to scale down for brides who do not typically wear a lot of makeup and want to look ultra natural with a touch of elegance. Learn how to take it up a notch when your bride wants to look bronzed and beautifully contoured.
THE EDIT
Choose makeup route you wish to persue and choose one of our Edit Shoots to build your portfolio. Our Edit shoots can be taken after your course has been completed. These shoots run throughout the year. Full creative teams are on hand to help you create the perfect look for your portfolio.
CAREER BUILDING
Learn how to create an industry ready CV and set your future employment goals. Our tutors are also building up their own makeup businesses whilst teaching you so gain knowledge and insight from their personal experiences.

What is the course duration?
The course runs for 3 days per week over 6 months with start dates across 4 locations. College days are either Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday OR Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
Is this course accredited?
Newly launched in 2018, HNC Fashion Make-up recognises the growth and diversity of the fashion make-up industry.
Higher National Qualifications provide practical skills and theoretical knowledge that meet the needs of employers. The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Fashion Make-up (SCQF level 7) develops knowledge, skills, and sound understanding along with practical expertise in all aspects of fashion make-up, thereby enabling candidates to work confidently and competently within this industry.
Do I get a makeup kit?
Yes, a starter makeup kit is included with this course. The products change for each intake but generally they will consist of a brush set, a variety of foundations for colour matching, concealers and a range of colour cosmetics products.

We encourage our students to equip themselves with the necessary skills to seek employment. We do often get employers contacting us seeking staff and we will reccomend suitable students or graduates for each job. We have a job board on our website where popular brands advertise regularly for GlamCandy graduates. We also post job opportunities on our Student & Graduate Only Facebook Group.

Will I get a photoshoot with this course?
Yes, professional photoshoots are included in your course. After you have completed your course there are many other opportunities to get invloved in photoshoots as a graduate on our aftercare program.

What support is available after I graduate?
Students are encouraged to join our private Facebook Group where we post opportunites to attend photoshoots, assisting work and various events such as catwalk and fashion events to build up experience and portfolios.
Where can I get funding for this course?
Scottish based students can apply for funding to SAAS (Students Award Agency Scotland) & SLC (Student Loans Company) to cover the cost. Many students self-fund from personal money, savings, finance. Students can also opt to pay their fees on a monthly payment plan.
How do I qualify for funding?
1. Enrol in our HNC Fashion Makeup Course or HND Makeup Artistry Course.
2. Be a resident in Scotland on the first day of the course.
How far in advance can I enrol?
You can book a space up to 1 year in advance.
Can I join if I just want to learn my own makeup?
Yes, many students enjoy learning beauty, makeup and creativity. Students can book our courses to follow their passion or hobby and learn new skills when applying makeup.
What is included in this course?
Can I progress with my studies after this course?
The HNC in Fashion Make-up allows progression into an HNC/HND in Make-up Artistry. Learners who successfully complete the qualification may progress to employment within the fashion, or commercial make-up industry.
