Becca Fouin MUA: Q&A

Name: Becca Fouin

Age: 23

From: Edinburgh

Job: Freelance MUA & Retail

What do you enjoy most about your job?Becca Fouin MUA: Q&A GlamCandy

I have a few jobs, however in my spare time I do freelance photoshoots. I really enjoy collaborating with other people and I find a lot of inspiration from my team.

I am extremely proud to have featured on two magazine covers working with photographer Gabby and hairstylist Mark, and we are also currently working on a series with 10 concept looks from randomly generated ideas.

What’s your favourite and least favourite thing about working with clients?

My favourite thing about working with clients is that I really enjoy working with new people and love seeing their confidence grow. However, I find it difficult to work with people when they have a very set idea of what they want, it can give me a creative block and I can struggle to become inspired as there is added pressure to perfectly match their vision.

Becca Fouin MUA: Q&A GlamCandyWhat do you love about being a makeup artist?

I really love seeing the transformation! Whether it’s the boost in a model or clients confidence, or creating amazing looks and transforming people into someone entirely different.

What is your favourite style of makeup to apply?

My favourite style of makeup is editorial, I really enjoy the creativity and how far out the box you can go. My current favourite is the ‘monochromatic royalty’ look I created for the concept shoots – an all red makeup look, I think the images are so strong and eye-catching.Becca Fouin MUA: Q&A GlamCandy

What is your favourite product in your kit & why?

It is currently my INC.redible ‘You Glow Girl’ Gel Highlighters in the shades ‘Flocking Fabulous’ and ‘Gilded Peach’. They match any skin tone and create the most beautiful glowing skin with a stunning pigment.

Becca Fouin MUA: Q&A GlamCandyWhat are your top 3 products in your own makeup bag?

My top 3 products have to be the P.Louise Eye Bases in both skin tone and colour shades, they really make eyeshadow stick! I also love the Doll Beauty ‘Gimme Sun’ Bronzer and the YSL ‘All Hours’ Foundation Stick – it’s a beautiful creamy texture and is brilliant to work with.

Do you prefer neutral or colourful makeup & what are your favourite colours to work with?

I think more natural colours are stunning, but I love working with colour – my favourites are pink, orange and red. I always match the colours to the clients eye colour and skin tone but a pink, orange or red is always beautiful and really makes green or blue eyes stand out!

Who in the industry inspires you & why?

Honestly, one of my biggest inspirations is Paulina, my HNC tutor. She really brought out my passion and helped me channel that passion into skill. She is my biggest supporter and has an amazing career.

I can see her working to become even bigger, she never stops and has so much confidence in herself – I aspire to be as good an MUA as her one day and hope to help others along the way.Becca Fouin MUA: Q&A GlamCandy

Where do you see your freelance business in 10 years?

I hope, more than anything, that in 10 years I will hold the passion and joy I do now for what I do.

What advice do you have for an aspiring MUA?

Always remember the basics of your learning, sometimes just knowing the difference between what colour or undertone you are working with can level up your look. Also, don’t give up! One more try and you could perfect that eyeliner flick, or tomorrow could be the day you get asked to work on a photoshoot – you’ll get there.
