Starting out in Holly's journey, she wasn't sure where she wanted to go after leaving school. Holly always loved creating designs, painting, and drawing so she decided to study art and design. Holly tried it out and it ended up not being for her although she was still curious about the creative industry. Having always been obsessed with doing funky designs and colours with her make-up, she decided to have a look at make-up courses. Holly finally found a make-up course that was right for her and it turned out to be GlamCandy! It was here that she studied her HNC and HND where she learned all she knows about the industry now.
With the opportunities Holly had during her course and her enthusiasm to learn, GlamCandy took Holly on as a staff member where she felt her skills flourished. Having now worked on commercial, editorial shoots, fashion shoots, films and even attended London Fashion Week with the Illamasqua team on behalf of GlamCandy, she also has a wonderful job as a tutor and assessor here which she says is the most rewarding experience. Seeing other students work as hard as she did to get to their best is such a great thing to see!
Holly also enjoys all things skincare and likes to create makeup looks suitable for all skin types, tones and ages. Holly loves to learn and create new styles. As a make-up artist, she believes in using make-up for self-expression and self love. Holly says it's such a great way to highlight your personal style and feel confident!
What motivated you to get into makeup?
I was always creating very glam looks on my friends and family and always enjoyed doing different looks on myself too! I was also obsessed with getting the latest make-up products. This, paired with my artistic interests led me to the make-up career I have today.
Where did you train?
I trained at the top creative college in Scotland... GlamCandy! I studied my HNC in fashion make-up and my HND TV/Film and Theatre make-up here and loved all of the opportunities that came with it.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
I would say that one of my biggest inspirations is Jamie Genevieve. As she is a fellow Scottish MUA, starting from the very bottom going from working at make-up counters and doing small jobs, saturday clients to now working for all the biggest make-up brands and influencing loads of make-up artists starting out in the industry is such a great thing to see. She also shows budding artists the potential in the industry which is so important!
What is your must-have product?
My must-have product just now is the Illamasqua Beyond Liquid Highlighter in the shade "OMG" - It's great to mix in with foundation and also to pat on top of the cheeks for an extra bit of glow, love this!
What do you like most about teaching?
The bit I love about teaching is measuring the progress of the student's work from the beginning and watching the bloom as an artist! It is such a rewarding process.
