Our AW18 wardrobes are screaming to be dripping with glossy fabrics and roaring with animal print – and you’ll need sunglasses this winter for the blinding neons. This seasons staples promise to bring a batch of fresh styling ideas, from spins on the clothing of iconic British heritage, to the revival of eighties style.

At London Fashion Week, street style made its voice heard above the Louis and the Gucci’s. Luxurious designers such as Balenciaga favoured the alternative, underground scene by showcasing their fresh, eclectic style for the season.

LAVISHING LAYERS

AW18 saw designers embracing wintry layers, with models strutting down the catwalk in some of the biggest, cosiest jackets we’ve ever seen.

Balenciaga, Simone Rocha and Missoni, to name a few, favoured the motto that “more is more” and applied more layers than a millefeuille. Piling on the blanket throws, puffa jackets, capes and waterproofs, models looked ready for the slopes.

RAVISHING ANIMAL PRINT

Zebra print is galloping into the spotlight as the front-runner of the Autumn months coats, and luckily for those with Bet Lynch at heart, there’s lots of leopard print, too.

After Gucci’s announcement that they would no longer use real fur, we’re pleased to say that other major luxury houses are following suit. Designer of the moment, Claire Waight Keller, produced stunningly silky, autumnal leopard coats for Givenchy and we can’t believe they’re all faux fur.

NEON JUNGLE

The next big trend that’s made its way to our Instagram feeds is the highlighter hues of the neon jungle.

Not content with sending bold brights out on to their runways, the likes of Miuccia PradaVirgil AblohDonatella Versace, and Demna Gvasalia didn’t shy away when it came to their blinding colour palettes.

These eye-catching colours have been turning heads and setting trends off of the runway too, after Kim Kardashian West was spotted wearing not one, not two, but three fluorescent looks this weekend.

Kim isn’t the only one sporting the glowstick look, with the likes of Bella Hadid, Kylie Jenner, SZA and even AHS’s Sarah Paulson have been getting in on the act.

GLOSSY FABRICS

High-shine vinyl, latex, plastic and patent have been the talk of high-fashion town this season. Metallics came full-gloss at Chanel, while plaids came patent at Badgley Mischka, and at Miu Miu and Adam Selman, red leather was waxed until it became reflective.

Meanwhile, Fendi and Tod’s demonstrated that a high-shine trench could provide a wonderfully glamorous alternative to its gabardine sister. It’s no longer just for the dominatrix’s out there, but a statement piece for all.

RENOWNED TWEED

The final trend taking over fashion houses around the world this Autumn is the British-renowned Tweed. Nearly every influencer and editor on the front row of fashion weeks this year wore a checked tweed blazer – and this season the catwalks confirmed the heritage comeback.

Flecked with lilac on boyish belted jumpsuits at Emilia Wickstead, blown into exaggerated eighties proportions at Marc Jacobs, blurred through boucle at Chanel and pink and black supersized punkiness at Miu Miu.

This season’s tweed is best paired with something unexpected – a slouchy granddad jacket and a pretty prairie dress a la Calvin Klein, or a prim tweed pencil skirt paired with sporty intarsia knits a la Louis Vuitton.
