Amanda Works With CBBC On TV Show ‘Our School’

GlamCandy tutor Amanda creates prosthetics for CBBC show and takes student, Kiera, along for the ride.

Amanda Works With CBBC On TV Show 'Our School' GlamCandyGlamCandy lead makeup artist Amanda McCarthy worked with the TwoFour production company – subcontractors to the BBC – to produce prosthetics for CBBC show, Our School.

PRODUCTION

After meeting with the production team and camera crew, Amanda completed a face chart for the brief given. After many hours of planning, Amanda came up with her idea for the overall look of the prosthetics. She also carried out vital health and safety risk assessments before any prosthetics were applied.

Due to disclaimers, Amanda wasn’t allowed to take photographs of the actors face beforehand, so the face chart was vital in envisioning how her prosthetics would look.

CREATION

At home, Amanda built the prosthetics with the face cast she made from the actors face – this ensured that the prosthetics would fit her face shape and contours snugly.

Amanda used Kryolan products to build the four-part mask, which took 12 gruelling hours to complete.

APPLICATION

Amanda attended Shawlands Academy with GlamCandy graduate, Kiera Miller, for production day. She applied the prosthetic to the actors face and carefully hand painted each and every detail on to the prosthetic face.

Following the painstaking process of applying the prosthetic, Amanda dressed the client in elderly clothing and applied a wig over a bald cap that she had already prepared.

Kiera worked as Amanda’s assistant, ensuring that she had all the tools she needed at the appropriate times, and assisted in setting up the production area for the prosthetics application.

AFTERMATH

Upon completion of the actors look, Amanda attended the camera room to watch the filming for Our School. Having signed a disclaimer, she was unable to disclose any information before the show aired.

Disclaimers are a crucial part of working on TV productions to prevent any information from being leaked. It is essential that you thoroughly read any disclaimers to save yourself from any repercussions.

Amanda carefully removed the prosthetic to ensure no damage came to the mask or the actors skin once filming had been completed. These health and safety procedures are crucial in the production of SFX, an aspect Amanda ensures her students put into good practice in their artistry careers.

Shortly after the show was aired, Amanda received an email from the director with a testimony to her services with TwoFour.
